The term “foliage” refers to the spectacle offered by deciduous trees when, in autumn, their leaves turn shades of orange, red and golden yellow. In the Aosta Valley this phenomenon transforms landscapes into fairy‑tale scenarios, bringing benefits to body and mind, from relieving stress to improving mood. Our area, the Lys Valley, is among the best places to admire the colours of autumn: castles, villages and mountain lakes are surrounded by woods where the foliage reaches its peak.
In Tschaval, a hamlet of Gressoney‑La‑Trinité at the upper end of the valley, the foliage takes on a special charm. The larch forests that surround the Lys stream and the slopes of Monte Rosa light up in yellows and oranges. As you walk along the leaf‑covered paths, you will smell resin and the fresh mountain breeze. During a walk you can observe silver firs, birches and edelweiss, and with a bit of luck spot marmots, ermines or hares in the meadows. On the shores of the small alpine lakes, the majestic peaks reflect in the calm waters, creating a natural picture of rare beauty.
Hotel de Gletscher is located in Tschaval and offers just 12 individually decorated rooms, each with a balcony and minibar. After a day among the golden woods, you can relax in our wellness area with sauna and Turkish bath, or sip a hot tea on the terrace while watching the sunset paint the peaks pink. Our location is ideal for setting off on foot without using the car, and experiencing the foliage in full harmony with nature.
